Neuschwanstein Castle was built by Mad King Ludwig II above the village of Hohenschwangau in Bavaria, Germany.

Photography is not permitted inside the castle. As many as 6000 visitors/day tour the castle during the summer holiday months. If we were all to be able to take our time for interior photographs, no one would ever get through the entire tour. There's just too much to see and take in. However, I found some interior photos on Wikipedia here.
It is quite an experience to see the castle looming up on the hill above the village. Does it remind you of Disney's Sleeping Beauty castle? It was modeled after Neuschwanstein..
You'll find the linking list to other participants and beautiful scenery around the world at Scenic Sunday here.

What a fantastic photo!!!
I've always had a penchant for the story of King Ludwig II. I've read everything available about his life. I have several original cabinet photos of him in my collection. It must have been amazing to actually see the famous castle that he had built. Thanks for sharing this, Kat - it made my day!
This is breathtaking. The amount and the position of the fog is too PERFECT. It mostly covers the background of the castle. This is like one of the movie scenes.
If I have a chance to visit there, I don't think I would be one of 6000 visitors a day as taking photo is not allowed. I would be taking photo at the place where you took this image!!
Thanks for sharing.
I look at this and imagine what it must be like to live on a farm below this magical looking place. Simply amazing!
this is incredibly stunning. i bet the interior looks amazingly exquisite. too bad photos are not allowed in the castle.
It is the perfect castle, isn't it! So funny! I have almost the same shot from when I was there several years ago! I used to live in Bavaria, so I love seeing landscape like this. Very scenic indeed!
of all the castles in the world, that one is my favorite, always has been! i so wish i could vacation there & be able to take that tour... how much is the tour?
happy sunday
That castle looming up in the sky makes a very beautiful picture. The fog makes it more romantic!
What a beautiful capture of the castle. This is one I would love to see in person also. tectw3e
a fairy tale castle! At least it looks like that in this photo.
This shot gives a grand perspective like I've never seen before. Fabulous! Found you on Scenic Sunday and I will be back!
I want to come to this castle, and see inside...someday!
