Earring Keeper

I've been wanting a thing to hang earrings on FOREVER! When I made the green fusion for the box (posted below), I decided it would be perfect as it matches the greens in my bedroom so nicely.

Yesterday, I picked up my materials and put it together. The fusion is simply cut and glued to a photo mat with mesh sandwiched between. I haven't figured out how to make it stand yet. I may put spacers on the back and hang it from a wall.

No more tangled earrings!!

One More Concert Photo

I love this image! But, I thought that color distracted from the feeling. I tried it in greyscale...but it wasn't quite right. I think the sepia tones really convey the emotion I'm looking for.

Keb' Mo'

Photography is my first artistic love. I've considered myself a serious amateur ever since I entered the digital world and had the freedom to experiment without the costs of film and processing. I have two favorite subject areas....nature, and live music.

I am an "over the top" Bruce Hornsby fan. I've seen him numerous times and have been photographing him in concert for the last 3 or 4 years. I have an archive of these photographs at my website in the Live Music gallery. But, I take the opportunity to photograph any musical performance that happens to be in a venue that allows it. Last night, I had just such an opportunity when we saw Keb' Mo'.

I'd seen him one other time as an opener for Bonnie Raitt. That was at a major venue where they clearly stated NO PHOTOGRAPHY! But last night, I was much more fortunate. While they announced no photography, the signs for the event said no FLASH photography. So, I took my chances. I thought I'd share a few images here....and more will be posted on the website soon.

March Journal Quilt

I just finished this journal quilt for the Cloth, Paper Studio Journal Quilt Group. The theme for March was Myth or Legend...and I chose to depict Mother Nature. We were supposed to focus on applique, and I chose to do raw edge machine applique. I kind of like the rough look.

I'm not real confident about doing people. But I really like the way she is poised. I think she appears to have a little bit of attitude....as well she should!

The background and her dress are silk fusion.

2 Postcards

I'm in a group to exchange fabric postcards. I was kind of at a loss getting started, but silk fusion changed all that. I think it's an incredible background for fabric pcs. I had wanted to do something with a couple of my photographs and the silk fusion sets them off perfectly.

I had 24 to do and most are very similar. I'm just kind of stuck on cardinals right now. But, I promise, I'll move away from the cardinal theme.

Snow Day

The northeast is getting a late season snowfall today. I really don't mind...this has been a mild winter. It lets me forget for a moment that it's already the middle of MARCH...and that time is flying by.

silk fusion samples

I did a little experimenting over the last couple of days. I made several small pieces of fusion just to play with different paint and inclusions...and I also made one larger colorful piece.

This one began with bleached roving for the background. I placed seed pods from potpourri on the piece, and then topped it with whisps of colored roving.

I painted this piece with bright yellow dyna flow. I tried to paint in veins and spatter orange on the yellow, but the second color just disapated. Only a hint remains. So, I added this color fiber and I think the result is lots of fun. I have another drying that began with a bright varigated skein. It makes me think of a carnival.

Silk Fusion - A Box

This is the second box I've made as part of my silk fusion class through Joggles. I was planning on dontating it to an online auction for GreenPeace. But, as luck would have it, the color EXACTLY matches the greens in my bedroom. So, today I tried to replicate the fusion sheet so I could make another. I mixed the color myself and fortunately I had plenty left over that I didn't pitch. I'm getting so that I don't pitch anything! (And my husband just LOVES that...LOL)
