Spring has arrived and it's great to be able to be out and to have some new photographic subjects to stalk. The shore birds are starting to appear and I hope in another week or two I'll be back out in my kayak. When we finally are able to leave Long Island, this is something I will dearly miss. It will be hard to leave all the bird life at the beach.
Today, I did something a little different though. I know the location of a fox den at one of the local state parks. My friend and I were there a couple of days ago and we saw the mother and 2 or 3 kits. The mother is very skittish and runs off while the kits hide in the den. We were lucky to get a few shots of one of the babies.
I went back today and when I arrived, they were all out in the middle of the meadow. The mother bolted immediately and two of the kits vanished into the den. One checked me out a bit, then hid as well. Today my plan was to park myself at the edge of the meadow and wait them out. I spent a lot of time staring at a dirt mound in the middle of a field. But my patience was rewarded and I had the chance to photograph all three of the babies together. Mom came back too...with a prize. But, my presence unnerved her and she dashed back into the woods. I know she wasn't far though....I could hear her calling to the babies when they were out.
LOVE when I have time to sit....and wait...and wait....and wait....like a REAL wildlife photographer!
:)
If you follow me on facebook, you've seen a couple of these before. But, I wanted to share them here as well.
