I saw this woman on the beach on my second trip out to photograph the snowy owl. The original had the bones of something interesting but really looked more like a snapshot. So I started to play.

What evolved is something that speaks to how I'm feeling these days. We are still dealing with the uncertainty of no job for my husband in New York, no job prospects in New York, hundreds of resumes sent out into what seems to be thin air, no apparent interest in a lifetime of hard work and skill development and an ever growing fear and sense of hopelessness about the future. I'm kind of loving this image but it also makes me want to cry.
I just discovered The Creative Exchange. The mission "With Your Camera in One Hand and Your Heart in the Other" was my inspiration to develop this piece. In my current state of mind, I really appreciate any and all sources of inspiration....ways to let out what's so scary it needs to be held in.

Oh Kat, I am in NY, so I do know what you mean. I am hoping things change soon, even if just a bit. I wish your husband the very best in his search.
This is truly a beautiful image, and I understand the sadness you see in it, but I think it can also be viewed as looking forward. Unknown yes, but still looking forward.
Thank you so very much for sharing with us this week at The Creative Exchange.
Sending you wishes for a good day!
lisa.
Hi there,
Stumbled upon your site throught Laura's Pretty Pix blog. Read a view of your blog entries and quite like what I (Dutch amateur photographer) see here.
First of all I wish you and your husband strength in these uncertain time; hope he'll land a nice job soon.
Your photography is slightly different from mine as I concentrate on nature and sports but your nature entries are quite recognizable. I'll be following you from now on.
Very nice what you did to that tree you shot with your iPhone!
All the best,
Robert
Wonderful and very mysterious image.
Very sorry to hear that your husband has had no luck finding a job. It must be so frustrating, I hope something positive happens soon.
You are a great photographer and I like your photographs very much.
These are hard times and I understand you very well how you feel. Only I can tell you is to be strong and I wish your husband to find a great job very soon.
Regards and best wishes
What a great shot, and I love your edit!
Wishing you and your husband all the best in the future..
My heart is always with you, because I know you're going through bad times. I am also under an enormous amount of stress, but I'm used to it. If I ever had a good day, I'd probably die of the shock.
I love the photo - it is so atmospheric and Gothic. It looks like snow but I'm assuming it's sand.
A beautiful photo; melancholy, haunting.
So, so sorry for your current woes . . .
Aloneness I feel from your photograph. It's beautiful yet so poignant. I'll pray that something comes up soon for your husband.
Was this taken on the North or South shore? My college friends and I used to bike and camp around the island during the summer -- along the south shore up to Montauk and back through the north shore and then home. I have very fond memories of Long Island.
Good luck!
There are sunny days. The next day would be rainy, stormy, hazy, or snowy. But there is no eternal snowy days in nature, and in our life, as well.
I agree with lisa, in terms of the interpretation of this beautiful image. She IS looking forward in a following wind!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Yoshi
I adore this image. It may seem sad in some ways, but I also see pondering, pensive, meditative, wistful, dreaming. I wish you well, and your husband well, during this rough time.
Lovely work! Art is a great way to release your feelings. Best of luck to you and your husband.
It is truly a winter of discontent for many of us. I'm sorry that you are in this difficult place.
