I learned this technique through a book on woven quilts. The background was created by making two large (about 18 X 18) quilt blocks that were then wavy cut, then woven together. The waterlilies are applique.

This was the project for an online quilt class called "Darned Quilts" I was so excited about this class but I was too busy to do the project while the class was going on. I just pulled out the information last week and got going on it. It's a little tricky....but not NEAR as complicated as it looks (thank goodness).

THis is stunning , Kat, you have a great eye for color, They really are beautiful.
I imagine sleeping under one of those. My great grandmother Porter's quilts were prized possessions, and she was still filling out orders from her descendents for her star quilts when she died. My sister Ann made quilts for everyone that were so prized some swore they could not sleep well unless under that quilt. I wore one she made me to tatters. Blessed are the quiltmakers! Kelli of Thoughts of a sober white woman is another blogger quilter who even makes pet quilts, but her specialty is quilts for soldier boys going to Iraq! See her blog on my side bar.
What beautiful colors! You really have gotten so good with this!
I feel like a broken record when I keep saying how beautiful they are. Those colors! My grandma made beautiful quilts but, she didn't have the vivid colors you have.
