December Views 2

december-views

My neighbor got a puppy about a month ago.  He's just big enough now that she's comfortable letting him play with my dog.  He was over today and they had quite a romp.  The moments they were still were few and far between, but I was able to catch them here.

Photo Art Friday 01

Photo Art Friday

I've stumbled onto another weekly photo meme that I think will be fun...Photo Art Friday.   Over the last few months, I've been doing more and more with iphone photography/art.  It's a great creativity booster and a wonderful outlet when I can't get out and shoot new images.  Photo Art Friday is the perfect excuse to get some of it posted.

I've been playing a lot with silhouetted birds in flight in the last week. I finally realized that the way to get close enough for these shots (with an iphone) is to look for folks at the park feeding the ducks. Here are the first three of what I hope will become a nice little series.

December Views 1

Serendipitous surfing took me to December Views.

"The idea is to take away the stress of having just one more thing to do during the holiday season and to sink in and be with what is in front of you, the beauty you see, the lush imagery that seems to explode in the darkness of this time of the year. That said, there are no rules and though the idea is to blog images everyday ~ that is not the intention, rather the intention is to allow yourself to enjoy the quiet, to allow a month of no stress creativity and to share a bit of your world with others in a completely different way than you usually do. Exciting and relaxing."

And I thought...why not?

Patterns in the sand are fascinating.  I know it's physics, but it looks like magic.  This image was taken on a December 1 visit to Napeague State Park here on Long Island.

World Bird Wednesday 11/30/11

Right before Thanksgiving, I took a quick trip to Jacksonville, Florida to surprise my sister for her 50th birthday.  I've never planned that kind of surprise before and WOW...was that fun!

The bonus on a Florida trip is the great birding there.  But I didn't have to go far to find this beautiful pileated woodpecker.  He was hanging out right in her back yard!

Every week I intend to participate in World Bird Wednesday...and every week it sneaks right by. If you love bird photography, please check out the links that can be found here.

In the spring, I did a photographic study of ferns.  It's a favorite subject I explore every year as the leaves begin to unfurl. As winter approaches, the ferns are once again of great interest. This backlit beauty called to me from the brush along a park path.

Autumn in New York

Long Island New York...

Due to a very hot dry August followed by the impact of Hurricane Irene, our autumn is less spectacular than it has been in recent years.  It's not breathtaking color everywhere you look.  But with a little exploring, I've found a couple of locations on the island where it really looks like fall.  Here's the best of the season where I live...
